About Budapest Ferihegy Airport
Known also as Budapest Franz Liszt International
Airport, Budapest Ferihegy (BUD) International Airport
is the main airport of Hungary, located in the capital
city, Budapest and facilitates the connections with
others airports around the world: Middle east, Africa,
Asia, North America and Europe. Its name comes from the
famous composer and pianist, Franz Liszt, when they
celebrated 200 years of the artist birth. Its actual
name, Budapest Ferihegy (BUD) International Airport, was
changed into Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport
on March 25, 2011. This new name causes some
misunderstandings and perhaps, that is way people
continue to name it Ferihegy. Ferihegy designates a
region around the airport; Ferenc Xavér Mayerffy is the
person who owned the exact zone of airport. He used that
land for farming.
After being used for military purposes, in 1938 appears
the intention to build another airport in Budapest. For
this construction, a designer was chosen (a descendant
of the famous architects of modern art) and in 1942 the
intention comes true. During World War II, as many
others airports, Budapest Airport was destroyed in
large. Then, it will be reconstructed an airport used
for civil aviation. At the beginning, there were flights
only for few neighbouring countries, but over the years
the number of landings grew up and the airlines
established connections with other parts of the world.
In the future, new constructions are scheduled according
the plans of airport’s improvement and expanding which
you will discover yourselves. So, do not think twice.
